A home-made Video-CD. Eins Plus 1979, taken from ARD, German Television. It's a 35 minutes documentary which tells the story of Dire Straits until 1979. It's spoken in German and shows some live stuff and interview with Mark Knopfler. Quality is not excellent but the recording itself is very interesting. Nice footage from the early days in Deptford and in the USA. The sound is not 100% synchron with the image. The original documentary must have lasted a bit longer because the person who tells the story makes a big step from 1979 to 1991 and then it ends suddenly. Nevertheless, a nice one to have I think
[7]
A home-made Video-CD featuring the Rockpalast concert from 1979. It's the complete concert featuring two versions of Sultans of Swing because Mark wasn't satisfied the way they played it the first time. The image is very good and the sound is just perfect!

French radio shows with various Dire Straits songs and interviews with Mark Knopfler. The comments of the radio reporter are in French. Interesting documentary, especially when you understand the French language. Nice facts and good sound quality
[23]
A home-made Super Video-CD containing a French TV special called "Dire Straits - Une Histoire Anglaise". Broadcasted in 1984. The special contains some live songs, a French reporter telling parts of the Dire Straits history and an interview with Mark Knopfler (French subtitles, you can hear Mark talk without any interruptions). Songs: Wild west End, Eastbound train and Les boys. You can also see the band playing pool. The most interesting part however is that this recording contains the jam that can also be found on Rare Sessions I (track 5). Mark is sitting in the studio jamming away on an acoustic guitar creating really great sounds! Unfortunately, the picture quality is not good but it's an interesting recording anyway. Total track length is about 24 minutes.

After this documentary a part of "Les Enfants du Rock" can be seen, recorded in 1985. It contains an interview with John Illsley during the Brothers in Arms tour, promoting the album and the Philips compact disc. It ends with So far Away (live). Total time of this part is about 13 minutes. Please mind: really horrible picture quality on this piece of recording!
[24]
some bonus tracks are added which have various picture and sound quality
3. Planet of New Orleans (erotic video)
4. It's money that matters (Randy Newman with Mark Knopfler)
5. Falling in love (Randy Newman with Mark Knopfler)
6. Fade to black (erotic phone video TV)
7. Storybook Love (with Willy deVille)
8. Jam session / interview (unknown place and date)
9. Ghost of Faffner Hall (English TV)
10. David Knopfler - Madonna's Daughter (with Dire Straits, San Remo 1984)
[25]
It's a 45 minute interview with Mark Knopfler about the Brothers in Arms record, new band members, recording the record, touring, the sponsorship of Philips Compact Disc, the costs of touring, Mark telling he prefers CD's above LP's and cassettes, teh benefits of CD's, the way Dire Straits concerts are organized, making videos and various other interesting things. The sound quality is OK, but the picture quality is pretty bad (flickering from colour to black & white and a bit blurry). But the interview itself is interesting and a lot different from all the other pretty standard interviews
[26]
Ride across the river Live
great version.
[27]
A home-made Video-CD containing a recording from Dire Straits in Israel. Very nice with interviews with Mark Knopfler, Guy Fletcher, John Illsley, Jack Sonni and Ed Bicknell. The band can also be seen on stage in Israel playback some songs (So far away, Walk of life, Brothers in arms) and also live on stage with a large part of Ride across the river, great version! Funny anecdotes and believe it or not: Mark Knopfler riding a donkey, see picture below. I believe the very start of this special is missing, but the rest is interesting to see. Total track time is about 29 minutes, picture quality is pretty good
[28]
It contains an interview with John Illsley during the Brothers in Arms tour, promoting the album and the Philips compact disc. It ends with So far Away (live). Total time of this part is about 13 minutes. Please mind: really horrible picture quality on this piece of recording!

A fan-made Video-CD with good sound. Picture is not very sharp, but it is filmed from the front row, so it gives a good view on all the musicians on stage. The sound is not 100% synchron with the picture, but it's almost correct so not very annoying. Very good closeups of Mark Knopfler! Chris White joined the band on sax, so there's a lot of nice versions! Others special guests : Dave O'Higgins (sax), Chris Barber (trombon), Bobby Valentino (fiddle), BJ Cole (pedal steel). Complete setlist

Nice home-made Video-CD of the broadcast from the Dutch program The Story of Dire Straits. It's a special around Dire Straits telling the story from the early days until the legendary concert for Nelson Mandela in 1988. Between various video fragments and clips, Mark Knopler is interviewed. Interesting to hear Mark say that he doens't like to go on such a long tour again like the Brothers in Arms world tour 1985-1986. A few years later he started the even bigger On every Street world tour 1991-1992... Good sound and picture quality with Dutch subtitles. Total length of this CD is about 45 minutes

Palais Omnisports De Bercy, Paris, France, April 1992.

A home-made Video-CD featuring the French documentary "24 Heures". A great documentary where you can experience a complete day during the On every Street world tour. The roadies building the stage, the soundcheck in the afternoon, the band receiving an award, Was not Was as opening act, the concert, the recording of the concert and the band leaving the venue until Mark Knopfler closes the door of his hotel suite. Also, some fans are followed during that day. A really enjoyable recording, spoken in French.

The On every Street world tour ended on 9th October 1992, so this is one of the very last filmed concerts of Dire Straits ever. Image and sound quality is not the best, but gives a nice view on the stage and the light show. Filmed from the standing arena, a bit to the right.

Nice home-made Video-CD of what looks very much like an official video presskit for On the Night. It contains various live tracks from On the Night combined with an interesting interview with Mark Knopfler taken shortly after the On every Street world tour 1991-1992. Very similar to the recoridng of Countdown Late (Countdown Late) but without Dutch subtitles and includes some different images. Mark ends with the words: "We did the best that we could on the night.." Good picture quality but some crackles in the sound. Very interesting recording. Total length of this CD is about 26 minutes.

The program is called "Mark Knopfler Masterclass" and has been produced in 1999.
Mark talks about guitar playing with three students: Rick Lucas, Jimi Savage and Chris Sharkey.
And of course some tunes are played, in the second part mostly pieces of Wild Theme from the Local Hero filmscore.
Very nice and interesting, especially for people who try to make some noises on a guitar themselves :-)

But the most remarkable thing is the appearance of Alan Clarke to play the keyboards in the second part of this 1999 show!!!!

This is a TV show that Mark Knopfler did to promote his new album Sailing to Philadelphia. The interview is a pretty standard one but has a great moment where the interviewer, Ivo Niehe, asks about the OBE. Ivo says: "Last March you received the Order of the Brittish Empire.." Mark replies: "Officer, please!". I was at the studio and 99% of the audience were real Knopfler fans, so he got a very warm welcome! Too bad that there is a little buz over Marks microphone during the interview, but the rest of the sound is very good. Very good image quality too. After the interview, Mark plays What it Is, with only the vocals live. The show was recorded on 14th October and broadcasted on 31st October. Total length of this Video-CD is about 12 minutes.

1. Chatting & Rock 'n roll Ruby
2. Chatting & Who will the next fool be

Two songs featuring Mark Knopfler, taken from the DVD "Good rockin' tonight". Great version of Rock 'n roll Ruby sung by Mark Knopfler (with glasses!).
Also nice to see Mark perform on the song Who will the next fool Be by the Italian singer Zucchero
[125]
This Mark Knopfler special was made as a promotion for the album and was broadcasted on various TV-channels. It's the complete video, lasting about 33 minutes. Pretty good picture and sound quality. Really nice to hear Mark talking about his whole life from being a young kid at school, the neighbourhood he grew up in, to becoming a world rock star.

This is only a collection of 54 small files in avi format, taken with a video camera from the balcony in the back.
Though the sound is good, the picture quality is poor, no close ups. Each track lasts only 30 seconds or less, total playing time 24:27 minutes.
So this is not a complete show, just short outtakes!

[135]
Excellent Video-CD of the first song of this historical 2001 concert!
Perfect image and sound (in Dutch: retestrak!!), but far too short: only Calling Elvis. We want more
[136]
The recording of the 23rd has nice image and sound, but it is best viewed in a small window. The recording of the 24th is filmed from the front right and has some very nice close-ups of Mark. Unfortunately only (part of) the encores
23rd June 2001:
1. Brothers in arms (last 3,5 minutes)
2. Money for nothing
3. So far away
4. Wild theme
24th June 2001:

Image is pretty good, front right view, quite steady with excellent close ups. Sound: good, some crackling on Brothers in arms
Of course you can relive those nervous, slowly passing minutes before a MK gig again with track 1, but it is not spectacular to watch an empty stage for almost 13 minutes, but still a nice memory to all have have been there. But the rest is great for example a full close up of Chad’s wonderful drum solo at Money for nothing. Track 7 shows some fans drinking beer and wodka, the tour busses and a nice shot of the band at the roof of the venue after the concert! Last concert of the Saling to Philadelphia world tour 2001
1. Various shots outside and before the concert
2. Calling Elvis (intro missing)
3. Done with Bonaparte (intro missing)
4. Just a few seconds of Who’s your baby now and Junkie doll

A very nice home-made Super Video-CD (SVCD), taken from the Video Press Kit for The Ragpicker's Dream. This version includes Portuguese/Spanish subtitles. This Mark Knopfler special was made as a promotion for the album. Great picture and sound quality! Really nice to hear Mark talking about how the album developed, the plans for a new tour, explanations of songs and nice facts. The press kit itself is about 16 minutes followed by the video clips of Why Aye Man, What It Is and Wag the Dog (cut).
